ADAC: Model 3 the most reliable BEV and 3rd most reliable Model in
Electric cars generally operate more reliably than combustion engines, was determined by the automobile club ADAC in its latest statistics, which, thanks to an expanded database, can break down the numbers more comprehensively than before.
Combustion engines: 9.4 breakdowns per 1,000 vehicles
Electric cars: 3.8 breakdowns per 1,000 vehicles
This means that conventional drives are affected almost three times as often. A clear advantage for electric cars.
But not all BEVs have few faults: the Hyundai IONIQ 5 has 22.4 breakdowns, caused by a faulty charging control unit
In the current evaluation, among the two-year-old vehicles, the two combustion engines MINI (0.3) and Audi A4 (0.4) performed best. The best electric car and only BEV in the top 5 was the Tesla Model 3 (0.5).
Toyota belongs to the worst performers. Several models are among the worst performers - above all the Toyota C-HR (model year 2020) with an alarming 63.1 breakdowns per 1,000 vehicles. The Yaris, Yaris Cross and RAV4 also show weaknesses, mostly caused by the 12-volt battery.
