Hunter Biden is reportedly facing legal expenses for federal tax and gun charges while serving as the new director of development at BASTA Inc., which supports undocumented immigrants through eviction defense. His new position has drawn heavy scrutiny due to his ongoing legal issues and family connections. Biden emphasized BASTA’s role in homelessness prevention in Southern California, praising the opportunity to serve the community..
BASTA Inc. co-founder Bryan Sullivan has represented Biden in multiple legal cases, including defamation suits. Hunter called BASTA a crucial resource for those in need in Southern California.
Biden said, “We’re the only group, in at least Southern California, that represents undocumented, and so we don’t take any federal money. And by the way, it’s not just El Salvadorian immigrants."
Biden added, "It’s Ukrainian immigrants that came in under duress from what’s going on in Ukraine and find it really hard to find work because of the fear of employers that they’re going to disrupt their business because of ICE raids and things like that. And then they lose their income. And almost all of these people are families and children. And if you can keep someone in their apartment or their home, you obviously also keeping somebody off the street in homelessness.”
In early 2024, Biden asked the DNC for help with legal expenses after financier Kevin Morris, who had contributed about $5 million, could no longer support him. Concerns escalated over his ability to fund his defense.
Hunter was convicted on gun charges and later pardoned, despite former President Joe Biden’s earlier pledge not to interfere.
The pardon sparked accusations of favoritism from Republican lawmakers.
