Hi.

Today I went to Costco, I found out that the engine oil is on sale, 10 quarte for $30.

My car is a 2012 cruze, eco trim, 6 speed manual transmission. It used this oil, 5W-30, Dexos 1.

My car only need 4.25 quarter oil. the filter (Walmart) costs $7. so the total cost for changing oil is ~$20. There is no excuse for NOT changing oil yourself.

放油还好，放油螺丝可以换成个铜体阀，或者用泵抽油。架车换油滤的话太危险，没必要。

放油镙丝离车头很近，手伸进去就够到。所以一般我换油不架车，半小时轻松换好。

有时换油同时要倒轮胎，就要架车。

如只架前轮，要拉起手刹，且用wheel block顶住二后轮。

换机油的话其实用2个ramp就行了，省事，不放心就在control arm或者subframe下面再放俩jackstands双保险。

很多高一点的SUV，pickup，van之类的换机油啥都不用架，直接把油盆塞底下去就能弄。

不完全对，需要花一个return shipping cost，一般10多刀吧，另外还有两次购买的差价，if any。比如去年这一套kit是80刀，今年涨价了涨到82刀。

对了还有个可能的隐形cost，他们FCPEuro会根据收到的机油量来返钱。比如之前买的机油是8L（Liqui Moly是德国产的都是以L为单位），寄回去的时候只有7.5L，那么他们就要扣一点。要是像Audi，BMW这种烧机油的车就会比较亏一些，我的MB从来没有烧机油的。当然其实可以想办法从别处搞点used oil来补齐的。

Good thoughts. I was thinking the same thing originally but later figured how they actually make more money by doing this. There are a lot of discussions about it as well.

My interpretation is that they set their price higher than other vendors but attract buyers with the mentality of "just in case", but as a matter of fact most parts people buy from them are one-timer (applies to me as well). Also by the time you need the next replacement, the money you paid to them last time had already been utilized for business for a few years and generated more profits for them than the part itself. So basically I'm feeling like getting the money I overpaid them for other parts back.

BTW in the recent years more vendors are joining this "lifetime replacement" team, including ECSTuning and carparts.com. That's a good indication that it is indeed a valid business model.
