Trump Says Didn’t Talk Nvidia Blackwell Chips for China With Xi
US President Donald Trump said he discussed sales of Nvidia Corp. chips to China with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, and that it’s up to Beijing to continue conversations with the $5 trillion company about access to the world’s largest semiconductor market.
But discussions Thursday did not focus on sales to China of Nvidia’s latest Blackwell accelerators, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One. “We’re not talking about the Blackwell,” he said.
Trump said Wednesday he’ll discuss Blackwells with Xi, triggering speculation the US will approve the shipment of more powerful AI chips to a geopolitical rival. That would have marked a major win for the world’s biggest company by market value, a significant concession to Beijing, and an upheaval of Washington’s yearslong campaign to curtail China’s prowess in artificial intelligence.
