Ukraine outgunned 10 to 1 in massive artillery battle with Russia
Kyiv urgently requires ammunition as the Kremlin seeks a breakthrough on the eastern front, where Moscow is sending waves of infantry to deplete the defenders’ stocks of heavy shells
According to data from the European Commission to which EL PAÍS has had access, Russia fires between 40,000 and 50,000 artillery shells per day, compared to 5,000-6,000 Ukrainian forces expend. The Estonian government, which has been one of largest contributors to Kyiv’s war effort, puts the average use of artillery at between 20,000 and 60,000 Russian shells per day, and 2,000 to 7,000 Ukrainian rounds, according to a document sent to EU Member States by Tallinn, to which this newspaper has had access. These numbers equate to between 600,000 and 1.8 million Russian shells fired per month, compared to between 60,000 and 210,000 by Ukrainian artillery.
US military intelligence reports state that Moscow has its own ammunition supply problems and strategists say the Russian army is attempting to preserve what it has. As such, the number of artillery shells fired over the past two months has dropped, according to several reports. The Kremlin has also shifted its priorities to certain targets, such as Bakhmut, which stands on the strategically important Kreminna-Svatove axis, and other points on the Donbas front line. Moscow holds an advantage through its vast military production industry and is believed to be receiving further supplies from Iran and North Korea. There are concerns in Washington that China could soon enter the equation.
In a single day in Ukraine, Russia fires the equivalent of the monthly artillery production rate of Europe, which stands at between 20,000 and 25,000 shells per month according the Estonian analysis, which also notes that the potential exists to increase production sevenfold. As such, the EDA and the arms industry are examining what mechanisms and incentives can be put in place to expand it. In addition, the US, EU and NATO are aiming to boost cooperation between their arms manufacturers to improve speed and efficiency.

中国肯定不愿意让俄国明显最输(我之前说过:(在短期和中长期内,)乌克兰和欧洲也都是输家;直接或有些接近直接卷入的欧洲国家只是在争谁输得更少。),否则有很大的可能会被山姆大叔“用无名指指着说”:you are the next one!
With Russia engaged in a new offensive in the eastern Donbas region, China’s existing stockpile of old artillery and ammunition — some of which is Russian made and could be readily used — might give Russia’s army the breathing room to keep fighting a war that has already lasted much longer than the Kremlin had planned.
“From the end of the Cold War until approximately the mid-to-late-2000s, China was the most significant foreign customer of Russia’s defense industry,” said Lukas Fiala, project coordinator of China Foresight, a research program at the London School of Economics. Despite waning reliance on Russian imports and a turn toward home-grown weapons systems, he said, China still has a “sizable contingent of Russian equipment.”
The Russian side, too, has been heavily reliant on artillery.
“The Russian army has shown one of the few things it can do is saturate areas with artillery,” said Phillips O’Brien, professor of strategic studies at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, with any new supplies allowing their forces to continue scorching Ukrainian lines.
But that success has come at a heavy cost and may have drained the Kremlin’s supplies.
While it was difficult to ascertain the current level of ammunition stocks at Russia’s disposal, O’Brien said, “They certainly have used far more than they were originally thinking.”
Russia was firing about 20,000 artillery rounds a day, a senior U.S. official told NBC News in November. Even Russia’s own mercenary force, the Wagner Group, has accused Moscow of starving them of shells. In November, U.S. officials also said North Korea was covertly supplying Russia with a large number of artillery shells, which, according to experts, suggested Russia was indeed running out.

“离”?
AFU fighter says we are leaving Bakhmut, all guys are beat up we are moving this wounded
We publish a request from RIA "New Day" and the answer:
Dear Evgeny Viktorovich!
Earlier, you predicted that the complete liberation of the Donbass republics could take two years, and if you go further to the Dnieper, then about three.
How do you look at the situation now, has your opinion changed?
And, finally, the main question that worries our readers the most: can the special operation end earlier?
We publish the commentary of E.V. Prigogine:
“Of course, the special operation can end even tomorrow if you follow the standard bureaucratic path. You can withdraw all those lines on which our troops are now located. It is desirable to draw them with a bold stripe, so that later you do not catch a plus or minus kilometer. On this, fix the Russian border, put border guards on it. Next, thank the top military leadership for the excellent results in the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, hold a parade on Red Square, present new orders with new profiles, send troops to the Chukotka-2023 exercises, and Wagner PMC to the Kolyma-2023 exercises and continue to rejoice. Another thing is how long this joy will last. I am absolutely sure that Ukraine, with the help of the NATO bloc, will break through these “red lines” and return those territories that belonged to it until 2014, and maybe with a bonus. And there is no doubt about it. Then, most likely, it will start again ... But it will be a completely different story.
Do I like this new story? No I do not like. It may turn out to be even more tragic and bloody than the first. Therefore, we need to fight for Russia here and now.”

他在两天前还是对俄国防部很有意见的。
We publish a request from the editors of the publication "Vek" and the answer:
Good evening, Evgeny Viktorovich!
Today in your comment (#1305) you told the story of the capture of Palmyra.
According to our information, a special medal "For the Liberation of Palmyra" was developed in the Ministry of Defense.
Do you know about it? Did the fighters of PMC "Wagner" receive this medal?
We publish the commentary of E.V. Prigogine:
“No, none of my fighters received this medal. Why? Out of jealousy. It often happens with us that there is a distortion of history in favor of individual individuals who do not take part in the creation of this history, but, using their bureaucratic position, try to steal this history. I hope you understand what I'm talking about.
By the way, almost every secretary in the reception room has this medal in the Ministry of Defense. But none of the more than a thousand fighters of the Wagner PMC who took Palmyra received it, just like the Ministry of Defense medal for Syria.”

We publish a request from the editors of the Notebook publication and the answer:
Hello!
Six years ago, on March 2, 2017, the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra was finally liberated by Wagner PMC units from Islamic State militants.
Can you recall these events and share the details with our editors?
We publish the commentary of E.V. Prigogine:
“Yes, indeed, on March 2, 2017, at dawn, I arrived near Palmyra and was there along with one high-ranking official from the Syrian administration, who came to thank my fighters for agreeing to recapture Palmyra from the enemy for the second time.
The first to enter Palmyra was Ratibor, the commander of the first assault detachment. I remember his words well, he turned to the official and said: “If you fuck Palmyra again, we won’t beat it off for the third time.” Ratibor led his assault squad several kilometers through the minefields to "height 939", the very famous height that became the key to the "first Palmyra".
This height was at absolutesnugly open slope, and the guys climbed to it, absolutely not covered from enemy machine guns. By noon, Ratibor entered it and went to the left along the ridge until he had taken all the main heights by night.
The Syrian troops refused to support us during this assault. In principle, the Syrian army rarely fought, it usually followed in herds in our footsteps when the deed was already done. This is what happened in Palmyra. After we took the power plant and Palmyra airport, I reported this to our command. And the order was given to advance the Syrian troops, they entered the city along the southern road behind the mountain range.
From Palmyra, after some time, we continued to move towards Deir ez-Zor. Syrian troops entered the city when it was actually safe. So it was in all the battles in the Syrian war.
Then for another two weeks they sent me photographs of the equipped positions of those very heights and the “spirits” killed in them. These were burrows and fortresses. It is no coincidence that Palmyra has been so well defended for thousands of years. Its geographical position is very well thought out and inscribed in the terrain.
After Palmyra, we continued to move towards Deir ez-Zor. Behind her was Es-Sukhna, then Ash-Shola, where later, in an unequal battle, the heroes Tsurkanu and Zabolotny were captured, but these are already other fragments from the history of PMCs"Wagner".
According to incoming information, the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the greatest losses received the go-ahead to retreat from Artyomovsk (Bakhmut).
According to the Military Chronicle, units of the 24th and 63rd mechanized brigades, the 21st motorized infantry battalion and the 3rd operational brigade of the NGU were ordered to collect the remaining weapons and ammunition by Monday (March 6), which can be evacuated from the city on light vehicles , and start leaving in small groups of up to a platoon with an interval of 25 minutes.
Presumably, the heavy and seriously damaged equipment of these units will be abandoned due to fears of air strikes by the Russian Aerospace Forces and artillery, and exit in large groups (companies and battalions) will be prohibited.
According to incoming reports, units of the 93rd mechanized brigade that did not communicate, as well as units of the 241st territorial defense brigade, will be left in the city, the remaining units of the 4th and 17th tank brigades can be sent to reinforce them.
