Local

Summary
The new LEAF's base trim will start at $25k. That's before any applicable incentives. It's about $2,800 cheaper than the current EV.
The new Nissan LEAF will start at just over $25,000 before incentives. Based on the latest order guide data, the entry-level 2026 Nissan LEAF S will be just over $4,600 more affordable than the S+ trim that will arrive at dealers first. Per our analysis, it'll represent a 10% price cut, making it one of the cheapest EVs to buy.
The 2026 Nissan LEAF S Will Be A $25k EVThe 2026 Nissan LEAF S has an MSRP of $25,360, excluding destination. That's also before any government incentives or factory offers. At that price, it has a $4,630 advantage over the S+ trim that Nissan recently unveiled at $29,990. Compared to a 2025 LEAF S ($28,140), the 2026 redesign represents a $2,780 price cut.

It May Be Cheaper Than The Slate TruckAt just over $25,000, the 2026 Nissan LEAF S will be more affordable than the upcoming Slate truck. That vehicle was teased at a base price of about $27,500 before the federal EV tax credit. However, that incentive is going away after September 30 due to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, along with a key loophole for EV leases.
Nissan Just Beat Tesla To The $25k EV Price PointAt $25,360, Nissan will successfully beat Tesla to the punch when it comes to affordability. Tesla CEO Elon Musk teased a $25,000 electric car as far back as 2018, reportedly promising its arrival back in 2023. However, the controversial CEO later dashed any hope of a cheaper EV, instead focusing on a Robotaxi project.
But Will The LEAF S Be Worth The Money? After all, Nissan hasn't released its official range, which will most likely be lower than the 288 to 303-mile specs of the S+, SV+, and Platinum+ grades. The S has a 52 kWh battery and a 130 kW motor that makes 174 horsepower. Other trims have a 75 kWh battery with a 160 kW motor that's been officially rated at 214 horsepower.
We'll have to wait for the official range estimates of the 2026 LEAF S to know for sure. Even though the current EV is ineligible for a tax credit on purchases, LEAF incentives from Nissan remain strong with a choice between a $7,500 rebate, 0% APR for 72 months, or $4,775 to $5,775 in lease cash plus ultra-low lease rates.
On a purchase, the current LEAF could be a better deal. However, we think the 2026 LEAF would be worth waiting for, especially at a $25,000 price point. Nissan hasn't announced 2026 LEAF deals yet, nor a more precise release date for the base S trim other than the spring of 2026, compared to fall of 2025 for other styles.
