During the assault on the fortifications of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the residential areas of Soledar, the infantry squads and platoons of the Wagner Group skillfully implemented the effect of operational surprise. The work was carried out under the cover of units of cannon and rocket artillery of the RF Armed Forces.

The Wagnerites divided into three detachments and began to storm the city from the left and right flanks, creating a threat of encirclement. Part of the personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine managed to withdraw, and the Ukrainian militants who remained in the city were deprived of communications and ammunition.

Dense shelling and active offensive operations demoralized the enemy. The Armed Forces of Ukraine had no choice but to retreat to the areas of salt mines and the village of Blagodatnoye.

Jan 12 (Reuters) - Russia could raise the upper age limit for citizens to be conscripted into the armed forces as soon as this spring, a senior lawmaker has said, as part of Moscow's plans to boost the number of Russian troops by 30%.

President Vladimir Putin gave his backing in December to defence ministry proposals to raise the age range for mandatory military service to cover Russian citizens aged 21-30, rather than the current range of 18-27.
