Maybe option settlement. Massive volume after hours as batch transaction. Could also be dark pool trades. There is no price movement. So the more likely reason is option assignment.
On second thought, it could also be agents buying for funds over a period of time and then settle today in preset prices.
However, this is true for many banking stocks. Ally has 40million shares traded today 10 times usual volume. I can understand that since it just joined S&P mid cap 400 but harder to see why for other banking stocks.
