The first fully automated port was the Delta/Sea-Land Terminal (now known as the Delta Dedicated North Terminal) in Rotterdam, which opened in 1993. However, some sources point to the Qingdao Port's Phase 3 (QQCTN) in China, which opened in 2017, as one of the first fully automated terminals in Asia, notes Port Technology and The Maritime Executive. Another contender is the Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) in Melbourne, which also reached full automation in 2017, says Port Technology.
Rotterdam, Netherlands: The Delta/Sea-Land Terminal, which opened in 1993, was the first to use Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and Automatic Stacking Cranes (ASCs).
Qingdao, China: Qingdao Port's Phase 3 terminal became operational in 2017 and was the first fully automated terminal in China.
Melbourne, Australia: The Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) was also fully automated in 2017, making it one of the first fully automated ports globally, says Port Technology.
