actually, the ukrainian side has been saying the same thing to their soldiers to discourage them from surrendering, or to encourage them to fight to their end when they are totally losing a battle.
of course, they wouldn't tell that surrendering soldiers may be much more likely shot from behind by "their own" people.
there were at least a couple of videos showing such acts.

in recent days, there are disputes about whether the russian airborne troops were directly in the bakhmut city's central/frontal battles. prigozhin has been consistently saying that there is none there. most of the airborn troops were deployed to the eastern kherson regions form many months, with the rest around kreminna-svatove region. after the russians pull themselves out of the eastern kherson, the airborne troops there were deployed in bakhmut-soledar region. they have been generally used in flank/"flank" areas, or around soledar or bakhmut. sometimes they fought to take control settlements smaller than those two. right now, they are around/to the south of bakhmut, and the north also. they are the most mobile troops, so they are used for dealing with more fluctuating situations.
as i said about chechens before, they were similarly used. at one time, some in kharkiv, some in rubhizhne, some in mariupol. at later time, some were in a great lugansk region, some in eastern kherson region. these days, some (most likely those pulled from eastern kherson) are in zaporozhye, some are in kreminna regions. they always play various roles, because the chechen troops have some different kinds of units, as shown in many videos of kadyrov or his top commanders wearing different kind of uniforms. their most elite forces are chechen special forces, the founder of which was once a commander in russia special forces. the speical forces were heavily involved in the battle for rubizhne and the twin cities (severo-donetsk and lysychansk).
wagner forces can generally/roughly be seen as special forces, more precisely, as stormtroopers. however, it has its own fighter jets, so it also has other components. they are generally for frontal assaults, and its core are top-notched in the world which makes it one of the greatest elements, the greatest at times, for the russian side.

forces from the two donbass republics (largely, donetsk republic) have elite units, some of the most experienced ones, second only to the wagner's core---in experience, on the russian side. but most of it is average, because its population base is relatively small. so they are getting more russians over the past few months.
they published a great portion of the videos from the russian side. so some of them must be pretty good.
they, like wagners and chechens, have great freedom to do their own things. but apparently they are more and more absorbed into the russian regular formation. in a year or two, they would have been just smoothed into it already and already.
