President Biden is right that US democracy is under threat.

From him.

The latest example: his complete disregard for limits on his executive powers over immigration, in blatant defiance of democratically elected lawmakers.

Even the pro-Biden New York Times notes the prez is using his executive authority as a “back door” to “significantly expand the number of legal immigrants entering the U.S.”

It’s his way of dealing with the historic surge of illegal immigration he ignited: simply let in a big chunk legally — even if Congress refuses to OK it.

Specifically, Biden has boosted the use of “humanitarian parole” programs to allow record numbers of migrants to enter and work here.

He also ballooned the Temporary Protected Status program, letting masses of newcomers take refuge in the United States outside the normal process.

The humanitarian-parole claims are supposed to be decided on a case-by-case basis: In 2021, the Fifth Circuit ruled that Homeland Security cannot “parole aliens en masse” and “DHS’s pretended power to parole aliens while ignoring the limitations Congress imposed” is “misenforcement, suspension of the [Immigration and Nationality Act], or both.”

Yet Team Biden keeps rubber-stamping most applicants under existing programs and has even created new ones for migrants from Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua and Haiti if they have private sponsors.

He’s letting 360,000 people from those four countries gain admission this year alone — more than got immigrant visas in the prior 15 years combined.

He’s also waving in applicants under TPS, with 670,000 from 16 countries now registered for the program or newly eligible since he took office.

House Republicans deliver on commitment to secure the border — because Biden never will
And though Congress OK’d only temporary stays here under these programs, almost no one is ever forced to leave.

The newly “legal” entrants may make Biden’s record on illegal border-crossers look slightly less horrific (an estimated 4 million have been set free or escaped detection on his watch). But they nonetheless add to the nation’s burden (and compete for jobs).

And, again, the policy defies democratically imposed limits on Biden’s executive powers.

Which is why 20 states want the courts to suspend the program for Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela; it’s not only illegal, these states don’t have the funds to cover the extra education, health-care and law-enforcement costs.

Of course, Biden’s approach to immigration is fully in line with his flouting the nation’s democratic system on numerous other issues.

For example, he pushed a private-employee COVID-vax mandate, an eviction ban and a student-loan-forgiveness program, even though his own administration knew they weren’t authorized.
If printing money would end poverty, printing diplomas would end stupidity.
