Prof. Nan Sun of Texas ECE and two members of his research group were recognized with awards at the IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC), the premier conference in the integrated circuits design field. Prof. Sun was honored with the inaugural IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society (SSCS) New Frontier Award. Established in 2019, this award "recognizes and honors SSCS members in their early career who are exploring innovative and visionary technical work within the field of solid-state circuits. The award aims to emphasize pioneering developments that are at the frontiers of IC design or possess an imminent potential to expand the field through new categories of circuit technologies, system design, and/or emerging applications."
Additionally, Texas ECE PhD student Wenda Zhao received the SSCS Pre-Doctoral Award, and postdoctoral fellow and Texas ECE alumnus Xiyuan Tang received the SSCS Rising Star Award. IEEE-SSCS Predoctoral Achievement Awards are awarded to a small number of promising graduate students on the basis of academic record and promise, quality of publications, and a graduate study program well matched to the charter of SSCS. The Rising Stars Award is given to graduate students and young professionals who have graduated within the last two years in computer science, computer, and electrical engineering.
Nan Sun is an Associate Professor and holds the Temple Foundation Endowed Faculty Fellowship No. 5 in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. His current research interests include analog, mixed-signal, and RF-integrated circuits, miniature spin resonance systems, magnetic and image sensors, and micro-scale and nano-scale solid-state platforms (silicon ICs and beyond) to analyze biological systems for biotechnology and medicine.
Xiyuan Tang (pictured right) received the B.Sc. degree (Hons.) from the School of Microelectronics, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China, in 2012, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from The University of Texas at Austin, Austin, TX, USA, in 2014 and 2019 respectively, where he is currently a post-doctoral researcher.
Wenda Zhao received the B.S. degree from the School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science, Peking University, China, in 2016. He received the M.S. in Engineering degree from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Texas at Austin, Austin, TX, USA, in 2019, where he is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree.
