#1 Maya Angelou和她的禁书《I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings》
看到Feliz的帖子说美国海军学院图书馆下架了Maya Angelou的自传体小说《I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings》,找了一下我以前读她的诗歌写的笔记。
Maya Angelou's "I Know Why the Cage Bird Sings" has been banned by some public school districts on the basis of its sexual content, which includes rape, molestation, and homosexuality.
... It has been challenged and banned in various locations in the United States, says the Intellectual Freedom Blog. The book has been removed from school curriculums and libraries due to its portrayal of racism, sexual violence, and potentially inappropriate content for young readers, reports the Sacramento Bee and mentions Marshall University. Despite these challenges, it remains a popular and widely read classic.

BBC新闻称她为“one of America's leading literary voices of the last 50 years”。

http://book.douban.com/subject/22196844/
Angelou:"'If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.' Maya Angelou - who was utterly amazing."
I thought my voice had killed him, so it was better not to speak - so I simply stopped speaking."
她与Martin Luther King及 Malcolm X互加好友;在克林顿的就职典礼上赋诗《On the Pulse of the Morning》,获得格莱美“Best Spoken Word”奖,销售过百万;她的诗集有《Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water 'fore I Diiie》 (1971,提名普利策奖)、《And Still I Rise》 (1978)、《Now Sheba Sings the Song》(1987) 与《I Shall Not Be Moved》(1990)等;克林顿送给她National Medal of Arts,奥巴马送给她Presidential Medal of Freedom;她在《根》等电视剧里出演,编过剧,导演过电影,在大学里教American Studies,作曲,写儿童书……
I am Human:
她引用北非血统的古罗马剧作家Terence的名句:“I am a human being, nothing human can be alien to me”。

Poem Hunter
http://www.poemhunter.com/maya-angelou/poems/
她的诗很有战斗风格:《Still I Rise》是打不垮的韧劲,“dance like I've got diamonds /At the meeting of my thighs”厉害。
Still I Rise
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may tread me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.
Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.
Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.
Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.
Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?
Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.
The Detached
We die,
Welcoming Bluebeards to our darkening closets,
Stranglers to our outstretched necks,
Stranglers, who neither care nor
care to know that
DEATH IS INTERNAL.
We pray,
Savoring sweet the teethed lies,
Bellying the grounds before alien gods,
Gods, who neither know nor
wish to know that
HELL IS INTERNAL.
We love,
Rubbing the nakednesses with gloved hands,
Inverting our mouths in tongued kisses,
Kisses that neither touch nor
care to touch if
LOVE IS INTERNAL.
The Lesson
I keep on dying again.
Veins collapse, opening like the
Small fists of sleeping
Children.
Memory of old tombs,
Rotting flesh and worms do
Not convince me against
The challenge. The years
And cold defeat live deep in
Lines along my face.
They dull my eyes, yet
I keep on dying,
Because I love to live.

Maya Angelou recited her poem "On the Pulse of Morning" at President Bill Clinton's inaugural ceremony on January 20, 1993. She was the second poet to recite at a presidential inauguration, following Robert Frost.

漂泊在外婚姻不幸福的男女,定时去文学城等论坛看看狗血的家庭大坑,就可以获得慰藉并避免直面和解决自己生活中的问题;
I know why the caged bird sings

Blue Eyes.
