737 Captain here. Seems too early and so little evidence, but from the video looks like Loss of Thrust on both engines (fuel contamination, wrong fuel type or intentional shutdown of both engines). If they had the emergency right after v1, they 1st needed to address the checklist (reason why gear was down), then normal items. I have no experience with the 78, but I assume that if the PM retracted flaps accidently instead of gear, we would see the PF at least trying to push the nose to gain speed. Temp was really hot (37~38ish), so maybe they weren’t even considering a derated/assumed temp takeoff, though it is a long runway (depends on company policy and the captain’s mood).
Whenever I see accidents like this, I wonder if the company addresses mental health and the amount of rest (REAL REST, not BS regulation rest), the crew had. My condolences to the family members and let’s hope we can gather some data to prevent this from happening again.
